Retirement Visas

The Subclass 410 (Retirement) visa is relatively easy to obtain. The following needs to be satisfied:

  • The applicant must be 55 years of age or older
  • Have AU$870,000 in assets (AU$800,000 if you have a non dependant child permanently in Australia) OR
  • Have AU$350,000 in assets and a pension or other capital for investment to provide an annual income of over AU$52,000 per annum (AU$315,000 assets and AU$50,000 income if you have a non dependant child living permanently in Australia)

The Department of Immigration will allow a reasonable period of time for property to be sold if the value of real estate is included in the asset level. The funds need to be in liquid form before the visa will be granted.

You and your spouse will also be allowed to work up to 20 hours per week as the holder of a Subclass 410 visa.

The applicant and spouse are also required to make adequate arrangements for health insurance during their period of stay in Australia. Health insurance will cost you around AU$280 per month (per couple) and we can assist you with making arrangements in this regard.

The Subclass 410 visa is valid for a period of four years and is extendable for further stays of 2 years at the end of each period. Please note that at the time of application for an extension, criteria applicable to, character and income and/or assets must again be satisfied.
